Georges Barbier Wall Art

Georges Barbier (Born 1882) was born in Nantes, France. He was an artist who was best known for his fashion illustrations. He had a unique style that helped him to produce lavish illustrations which helped to bring attention to the Art Deco movement. He was the son of a wealthy family and was known to most art collectors. At a very young age, Barbier began attending classes of art and honing his design skills. He studied at the School of Fine Arts before he left Nantes for Paris. He exhibited at several galleries while in Paris, and also continued his studies. Barbier was primarily known for his illustrations, but he also worked as a designer of costumes, creating costumer for French stage and American films productions. In his career his contemporaries described him as flamboyant.

He always had an interest in fashion. After just first few years in the field, Barbier started holding exhibits in groups, but in 1911 he had his first solo show. In 1912, he began drawing illustrations for Good Ton Gazette, which was one of the fashion magazines that were leading in the country. At the onset of World War I, he expanded his work to include a line of wallpaper that he designed. Barbier, after meeting and befriending Cartier Louis, he also created jewelry for Cartier. During World War I, he also worked as a journalist and created illustrations for many comic publications. He found success as a costume designer after the World War I ended.
