Allyn Engman Wall Art

Allyn Engman (Born in 1955) was born in New Haven, Connecticut. She was raised up throughout the northeast - from Maine to Pennsylvania. In 1980, Allyn graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Textile Design. She first worked as a knitwear designer and after some years, she started designing and producing a line of clothes for children called "Snapdragon." Allyn went ahead and became a print designer for a dress company specializing in women’s dresses, then later she spent 5 years working as an etcher for a commercial art company. Here Allyn worked on copper plates using aquatint, hard grounds, and soft ground techniques. For almost 20 years, most of her design work has been floral with calligraphic and architectural elements.

The artist particularly likes images with motion, such as flower petals and the natural gesture of leaves. The transparent, fragile quality of flowers is very inspiring to her and to her viewers. Allyn is further enthralled by the overall structure of flowers, such as the transition from stem to flower and from stem to leaf. When she paints, Allyn says, the process is just as important to her as the end product. She adds that it's a voyage every time and she loves it. She works primarily in acrylics, and she uses layered washes, that look like watercolor, and dry brush techniques. Her works are easy to recognize because of her unique style. Her art is sold in many stores across the globe.
