Greg Alexander Wall Art

Greg Alexander is a wildlife artist who was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After high school, he enrolled in an art college. Instead of being impressed with many classes in techniques offered by the college, he felt like he was being pulled farther away from his own personal artistic quest of wildlife art. He’s basically self-taught, a fact that does not hurt the success of his posters, prints and art. He currently lives in northern Wisconsin with his wife and two daughters. His source of inspiration is the great outdoors and he enjoys the fact that near his home he has so many beautiful scenes than he can paint forever. Committing at least a third of his time to reference photography and field research, accuracy has become a trademark of his work. He’s equally comfortable with a range of wildlife subjects, jumping with ease from feather to fur to fin and back again.

Alexander says that anatomical correctness is essential, but for him it’s just part of what he strives for in terms of accuracy. He doesn’t want to merely paint portraits but rather to reveal something about the personality of each species he paints. Alexander works from photographs of landscapes in which he places animals and birds. His painting was featured on the Wisconsin Pheasant Stamp of 1997, only one of his successes through posters, prints and art. He is also active in conservation and that’s why his art is loved by many conservationists. Hard work and discipline have paid off for the artist. He has won numerous conservation stamp competitions, and he is considered one of the country’s finest wildlife artists.
