Lisa Cueman Wall Art

Lisa Cueman is a 16th generation Bermudian. She grew up on the island of Bermuda. She can’t remember exactly when she started riding but just knows that she always could ride. She has spent most of her time around or with horses. In 1993, Lisa loaded her jumper onto a container ship for a 4-day, trans-Atlantic crossing. She reached North America after which she relocated to Ontario, Canada, because she wanted to focus more on competing and training. After many years, she retired her beloved athletic partner and faithful travel companion, completely stepping away from being a competitor and horse owner. It was at this point that she returned to the love for photography that she had first discovered during high school. Lisa has never looked back. It was her photographer friend who advised her telling her to photograph what she really loved. This turned Lisa’s attention back to the horses, plunging back into an environment that she really knew and loved, but this time with a camera in her hand.

Her skills were honed while she was attending technical programs at The Maine Photographic Workshop as well as other workshops that were conducted elsewhere. Lisa has found inspiration in the works of photographers such as Amanda Jones, Nick Brandt and Tim Flach, all well known for their very different and elegant approaches to the photography of animals. Her horse filled years coupled with the uncommon freedom that she experienced in childhood serves to inform her work today. She now resides in Dorset, Vermont with her husband, a Rhodesian Ridgeback and a black lab. Lisa hopes to present her images, as if for the first time, and in a way that perhaps has not been considered.
