Jose Gomez is a London based mixed media artist. He studied Sculpture at Camberwell College of Arts and graduated in 2012. Since then, painting has become his intimate adventure. With his paintings, Gomez aims to give a sense of warmth to viewer. He has a passion in creating individual abstracts which reflect intensity and depth to create a rich tone of colors representing vitality and energy. His practice is based on mixed media works including prints, paintings and sculptures.
His art pieces are created by putting side by side inventive and spontaneous ideas. He wants to create the absurd and the contradictory, merging them with aspects of daily life and assemblages of bizarre ingredients. The use of colorful objects and paints creates a focal point on his emotions having a psychological potential in his work. He plays with a variety of assemblages so as to set up kitsch and humorous arrangements.
What inspire his abstract paintings are the organic forms that he embraces. He takes the rough properties found within nature and applies and intertwines them with his own approach and style. He is attracted by reflective surfaces, the qualities of metals, the rough textures and by the gleaming colors found in minerals.
Gomez presented his first solo show at the Sharp Gallery in 2014. His artwork has also featured in many group exhibitions in London including Made in Bermondsey at The Bermondsey Project, 130 Views at Oxford House, and The Ones to Watch At the Facade Gallery.
